Adult Family Counseling
Helping parents and their adult children repair hurts and grow together
Feeling Disconnected and frustrated?
I work with families who are stuck in old ways of connecting and communicating that now feel hurtful and jarring. Within these families, the now grown up children often feel minimized and hurt by their parents behaviors, feeling like they are still being treated like children. Even when they have their own kids, these adult children feel like their own parenting is not enough or feel like it is being judged by their parents.
These families have trouble understanding who each other are and connecting as adults. It can feel very isolating and frustrating for these families who simply want to confidently and openly engage with one another. Instead, often one or both people will start pulling back to prevent more hurt from happening.
There’s Hope!
In adult family counseling, I can help you learn about how your parent or child has changed over time, and then redefine boundaries and expectations in order to accommodate for those changes. This will help you begin to communicate with more love and respect. During the process, you will learn about how you have changed over the years as well as that growth process of your loved ones. Using that new understanding, you will start to use new ways of communicating and connecting as adults. This new way of engagement will help you sustain your relationship through whatever ups and downs will still come.
